Seven of the best open air swimming spots near Bristol

Open air swimming has grown in popularity during the last few years. During lockdown many people rediscovered the pleasure of wild swimming. If you are a competent swimmer there can be few more enjoyable ways to spend a sunny summer afternoon than doing a few lengths in the open air.

If you are a less confident swimmer it is safer to exercise in an outdoor pool with a lifeguard. Now I am older I prefer a heated pool with proper changing facilities. What ever your preference swimming is a very good exercise for the whole body helping to improve flexibility, strength and aerobic fitness. It is also very good for your mental health.

I have tried to include a range of suggestions to suit all tastes and abilities in my list.

They offer a range of pools but the rooftop terrace is definitely a hit with visitors

It’s open throughout the year, with the water heated to 22-25°C – so not too shudder-worthy but certainly enough to wake you up. Click here for more information.
